How to obtain a new copy of an Australian birth, marriage or death certificate
Australian Capital Territory (ACT)
Applications for copies of ACT birth, death and marriage certificates may be submitted online.
ACT Birth Certificates: Copies of birth certificates can be obtained for yourself (if you’re an adult), for your child (if they’re under 18) or with written authorisation.
ACT Death Certificates: Copies of death certificates can be obtained if you’re named on the death registration as the deceased’s spouse, domestic partner (at time of death), parent or child, or with written authorisation from one of the above.
ACT Marriage Certificates: Copies of marriage certificates can be obtained by those named as the bride, groom or partner on the certificate or with written authorisation.New South Wales (NSW)
Copies of New South Wales birth, death and marriage certificates may be submitted online, by phone or in person at a Service NSW Service Centre.
NSW Birth Certificates: You can order your own birth certificate or your child's certificate.
NSW Death Certificates: Copies of death certificates can be obtained by the next of kin named on the death certificate (e.g. spouse, parent or child of the person who has died).
NSW Marriage Certificates: Applications for a NSW marriage certificate can be submitted by a person applying for their own marriage certificate or by a child of the marriage, if both individuals named in the marriage are deceasedNorthern Territory

Western Australia
Copies of birth death and marriage certificates can be ordered online from the Western Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Certified translations of Australian death, marriage and birth certificates
When presenting an Australian marriage or birth certificate in a country which does not have English as an official language, then a certified translation may be required. A translation can be done in Australia by a NAAT-certified translator and then legalized for use abroad with an Apostille stamp from DFAT; otherwise, a sworn translation could be done in the country where the certificate is due to be presented.
